Founders Vision

Indian Human Rights Social Protection(IHRSP) is not a conventional NGO or typical institution; it is the ray of hope in millions of hearts, the first dream in their eyes, the first smile on their faces. It is the sky and wings together for innumerable children, excluded from human identity and dignity, with a desire to fly in freedom.

It is the tears of joy of a mother who finds her rescued child back in her lap after years of helplessness and hopelessness. It is a battle to open doors of opportunities, a fire for freedom and education in the hearts and souls of thousands of youth committed to wiping out the scourge of slavery and ignorance from humanity.

IHRSP is the first lamp lit by those who didn’t believe in cursing darkness; they dared to hold fire in their hands, determined to dig out springs from stones. In an age of ignorance and neglect on child servitude, these ordinary youth had a vision beyond the heavens. They fought mighty criminals, slave masters, and mafias with courage.

Beginning its operation on 31st January 2014, a mass movement was ignited to create a child-friendly society where all children are free from exclusion and exploitation and receive free, quality education.

The movement identifies, liberates, rehabilitates, and educates children in servitude through direct intervention, community participation, partnerships, and campaigns — addressing issues such as education, trafficking, forced labour, and building child-friendly villages.

IHRSP has triggered a ripple effect in India and globally. The tide is turning in favour of children — a ray has multiplied into a sun, bringing brightness and hope to the lives of underprivileged children. Join us in bringing smiles of freedom, love, and peace to every child in this world.

What are Child Rights?

A right is an agreement between those who hold it (“rights-holders”) and those who have duties (“duty-bearers”). Child rights are specialized human rights that apply to all humans below the age of 18.

Defined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), child rights are universal entitlements and freedoms for every child, regardless of race, religion, gender, or background. They are interdependent and indivisible — one right cannot be fulfilled at the expense of another.

The UNCRC outlines four broad classifications of these rights covering civil, political, social, economic, and cultural aspects of every child’s life.

Right to Survival

A child’s right to survival begins before birth. It includes the right to be born, minimum standards of food, shelter, clothing, and the right to live with dignity. Every child also has the right to protection from neglect, exploitation, and abuse.

Right to Participation

Every child has the right to participate in decision-making that affects their life — according to their age and maturity. Participation ensures that their voices are heard and respected.

Right to Development

Children have the right to emotional, mental, and physical development — fulfilled through care, education, play, recreation, and nutrition.

What is Child Protection?

According to UNICEF, child protection means preventing and responding to abuse, exploitation, violence, and neglect. This includes trafficking, child labour, and harmful traditional practices like child marriage or mutilation.

The Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) defines it as keeping children safe from real or perceived risks to their lives or childhood. It ensures children have a safety net for care, rehabilitation, and reintegration when harmed.

Child Protection Framework

  • Prevention: Law and policies, processes, monitoring, and awareness.
  • Intervention: Immediate relief, restoration of rights, punishment of violators.
  • Rehabilitation: Long-term care, skills training, and reintegration.

Understanding the Difference

Child Rights are ideals and entitlements, while Child Protection is the system ensuring those rights are realized. It involves all sectors — government, education, police, and civil society — working together.

Protection is not just reactive but preventive. It ensures families can access health, education, and food, while helping destitute, orphaned, or abandoned children through adoption or foster care. Thus, child protection upholds all other child rights by providing a secure and nurturing environment.

Every child deserves a childhood — safe, educated, and free. Together, we can make it happen.
